How to use
- Choose a mode: HTML entities, Unicode escapes or JSON string.
- Encode or decode — the result updates as you type. Use Swap to reverse the direction.
- The character inspector lists every code point and flags invisible characters like zero-width spaces and non-breaking spaces, which often break code copied from documents or AI chats.
FAQ
Why does my text contain invisible characters?
Copying from web pages, Word documents or chat apps can bring along zero-width spaces, non-breaking spaces or byte-order marks. They are invisible but break string comparisons, JSON parsing and code. The inspector shows them.
What is the difference between \uXXXX and \u{XXXXX}?
\uXXXX encodes one UTF-16 code unit, so emoji need two (a surrogate pair). \u{…} (ES2015) takes a full code point, e.g. \u{1F600}.
